I am Nikunj Verma
IIT Delhi, then a Master's in Computer Science at MIT, then doctoral research in quantum computing at the University of Basel. Before tutoring full time I worked as a senior cloud and data engineer here.
I have taught 50+ students in Switzerland, and lived and studied in 9 countries — which is the short version of why a student arriving mid year into an unfamiliar system is not an unusual case to me. It is most of my work.
What I am actually good at is the thing that is hard to advertise: finding the exact point where a student stopped understanding, which is almost never where they think it is, and rebuilding from there.

Teaching is in English, as a native speaker. Everyday German is functional.
One rate, every level
A Sekundarschule student and an IB Higher Level student pay the same. The preparation differs, the price does not.
Sessions run 90 to 120 minutes. Every subject, every level, in Basel or online.

Payment is handled by Stripe, by card or TWINT. Hours are booked with me afterwards; buying a package does not book a slot on its own.
The things parents ask first
Do you teach in English or German?+
I teach in English, as a native speaker who grew up in the USA and India. Students working through the Swiss system in German get the subject explained clearly in English, and most pick up a good deal of academic English along the way. My everyday German is functional rather than fluent, so German language instruction is not what you are buying.
Where do lessons happen?+
At my place in Basel, online on Microsoft Teams, or at your home if it is reachable. Online works well for maths and physics with a digital whiteboard. Travel to your home is charged on top of the hourly rate.
How long is a session?+
Ninety minutes to two hours. Shorter than that and you spend the session getting warmed up. The hourly rate applies to the time booked.
How often should we meet?+
Once a week is the usual starting point and enough for most students. Exam preparation and students with real gaps to close often move to two or three sessions a week. We decide together after the demo lesson.
What do you charge?+
CHF 75 per hour, or less per hour if you buy a block in advance. The first consultation and the demo lesson are free.
How do I pay?+
Either way round. Session by session, by TWINT, requested afterwards. Or buy a block of hours online in advance, which costs less per hour and is handled by Stripe. Monthly plans are invoiced in advance and can be paid by standing order.
Do I have to buy a package?+
No. The packages are a convenience and a small discount, nothing more. Nobody is asked to pay anything before the free consultation and the free demo lesson, and paying per session at the standard hourly rate is always available. Unused hours are refundable under the terms.
Do you only teach IB and Gymnasium students?+
No. I teach every academic track in the Swiss system, including FMS, Berufsmaturität and the Passerelle, alongside IB, IGCSE, A-Level, AP and the bilingual and international schools. The map above is not marketing, it is what I actually teach.
